Plans
A CrabTalk plan is a monthly price for included calls, compute, rows and storage, and a cap on calls at once. Past them you spend credit, or are refused.
Your account's plan sets what its services may use each month: calls, compute, rows read and written, and bytes stored. It also caps how many calls to them run at once. Use past the monthly amounts is paid from credit you bought, or refused; it is never invoiced.
Plans
| Plan | For | Past the included amounts |
|---|---|---|
| Free | You and orgs | Calls public services; runs none of its own |
| Pro | You | Paid from credit; refused without it |
| Scale | Orgs | Paid from credit; refused without it |
| Business | Orgs | Paid from credit; refused without it |
Each plan's price, and what it includes, are on Pricing.
Deploying a service takes a paid plan or the trial: Pro or the trial on your own account, Scale or Business on an org.
Free accounts
- Signing in makes a Free account, and it stays free for as long as you keep it.
- A Free account calls any service's public tools, and through apps any site's services. The service's owner pays for those calls, against their own plan.
- It holds API keys and apps, and joins orgs.
- It runs no services of its own.
Included amounts
Each plan includes an amount of calls, compute past each call's first 1M wasm instructions, rows read, rows written and storage each month; the amounts are on Pricing. Free accounts run no services, so they include none of these.
- What is counted: calls to your services, the compute they use past each call's first 1M wasm instructions, the rows they read and write, and the bytes they store. The number of services is not limited.
- When it resets: at the start of each billing period. Unused amounts do not carry over.
- Per call: each call is also bounded by its tool's budget, the wasm instructions and rows one call may use. You set it at
PUT /services/{owner}/{name}/tools/{tool}/budget. - Warnings: at 80% and at 100% of each included amount, and when credit runs out, on your billing page and by email to the account's owners.
Calls at once
Each plan also caps how many calls to your services run at once; the caps are on Pricing. A Business account's cap is its whole dedicated node.
- What is counted: every call to your services from when it starts until it returns, the services it calls included. Time waiting on a fetch or another service counts here, though it is not charged.
- Past the cap: calls answer
429, and crons and wakes wait for a free slot. Credit does not raise it.
Dedicated nodes
- A Business account's services run on a node no other account's services run on, and every call slot on it is theirs.
- The node is CrabTalk's standard machine; a Business account chooses no hardware.
Past an included amount
On a paid plan, use past the included amounts is paid from credit. The trial, and an account out of credit, are refused instead:
- Calls to your services answer
402. - Crons and wakes wait, and run once the account is back within its plan.
- Your services and their data are kept.
The account is back within its plan at the next billing period, as soon as it upgrades, or as soon as it buys credit. Nothing past the included amounts is ever invoiced.
The free trial
- 7 days of Pro on your own account, with smaller included amounts.
- A card is required to start it, and each card starts one trial. Nothing is charged to it.
- On day 7 the account is back on Free. It becomes Pro only if you subscribe.
- Services of an account whose trial ended without subscribing are held, and removed 30 days later.
Accounts and orgs
- A plan belongs to one account, yours or an org's. Pro is sold to people; Scale and Business to orgs.
- Creating an org is free. An org is its own account, billed apart from its members' accounts. On Free it holds members but deploys nothing; its first paid plan is Scale.
- An org's members share its plan, with no limit on how many and no charge per member.
